Ab-e-Hayat Episode 24 Review
As we move closer to the ending of this story, I only have one question that tops all questions: How in the world is Umera Ahmed going to wrap up the whole mess that unfolded in this episode? How?? There are three different plot lines that need to be resolved, and not to mention the cliffhanger ending that not-so-subtly reminded me of Amarbail with that countdown thing. Despite all that, I have to say, this was one long and dense episode, something we haven’t quite seen before. It made the month long wait almost worth it. So much happened in this episode. There’s so much to talk about, so let’s get to it.
The episode started with Jibrael and Ahsan Saad facing off at a restaurant. And by that I mean Ahsan Saad showing his true colors and Jibrael realizing how much of a pathetic that guy really was. Right from the beginning my blood boiled from all the horrible stuff he said about his ex-wife. This guy is much more worse than Jalal Ansar. I can’t believe he still thinks he’s got any right over Aisha even after the divorce. And the fact that Aisha won’t even go to the police for harassment because her ex-in-laws still have a psychological hold on her is just heartbreaking. I don’t know if Jibrael spilling the fact that Ahsan’s son was killed due to doctors’ mistake will make things better or worse, but it sure takes the focus off of Aisha and makes her clean from this supposed ”crime”. Like previous few episodes, Jibrael and Aisha continued to hold my interest in this one too. I hope they have a happy ending, especially now that Jibrael sort of knows that Aisha used to like him.
Things are also starting to pick up between Humain and Raeesa, though neither know about it. Imagine my surprise and delight when Imama mentioned Raeesa while discussing Humain’s marriage with him. It made me so excited that the idea of these two getting married had crossed her mind and that she had no qualms about it either. I can’t wait to see how Humain and Raeesa would react. I bet they would both freak out. Especially Raeesa. And it will be hilarious. It will also be interesting to see how she agrees to it, after what happened with Hasham. After Ahsan Saad, he’s the one who disappointed and pissed me off the most. First, he didn’t even try to explain or apologize to Raeesa for not informing her beforehand about his engagement, and then had the audacity to suggest the idea of making her his second wife. While Raeesa laughed at his suggestion, I was pulling my hair out. This is the kind of cultural difference that Humain warned her about, and its good that she didn’t have to go through it, albeit at the cost of a heartbreak. Hopefully, she’ll get over it, soon.
I adored Imama for accepting Eric/Abdullah’s proposal and laughed when she wouldn’t tell Anaya who her would-be husband really was. Anaya’s reaction was so hilarious. I was glad to see things were going fine between these two and the rest of the family too. Raeesa’s future looked good with Humain, Jibrael too was going to find something with Aisha, and Anaya was all set to get married to the boy she always liked. What could possibly go wrong? I was relaxed. I was happy. But just then, Eric dropped the bomb by revealing his mentor, the guy he idealized to be none other than Ahsan Saad! I was like, wha – but – how – NOO!!! This was not happening!! But it was. Eric had been under his influence for a good part of his adult life! As soon as the gravity of the situation hit me, I was like, Run Anaya Run! And don’t look back. You deserve better than him. With a heavy heart I had to accept that Eric was no more a good option for her. And I was so glad when Jibrael didn’t waste any time to reveal his intentions when Anaya told him about Eric’s “mentor”. I’m pretty sure no one in his family would let Anaya marry him after Jibrael tells them what the man Eric idealizes did to his ex-wife. But this will too be at the cost of another heartbreak. Although, maybe Eric isn’t as bad as Ahsan Saad. Maybe he’s still a good person. Who knows? All I know is that this is a risk not worth taking.
I was also very sad at the passing of Sikandar Usman. He was a good man and a great father to Salar. I still remember all the hard time Salar gave him in Peer-e-Kamil and how their bond became stronger after Salar’s transformation. I actually had tears in my eyes when he asked Humain to return Imama’s ring to her when he died, and also at Imama’s reaction to that. Humain’s relationship with his grandfather also hit home, especially with Humain witnessing firsthand his withering memory and health. That’s life for you. It all fades away eventually. Nothing lasts forever in this world.
A part of me is glad that Sikandar Usman wouldn’t have to witness the assassination attempt on Salar. Though its still not clear who the exact target is. It could be Humain too. And I’m not, absolutely not okay with either of them getting shot. Add CIA’s slander operation against Salar in the form of Ghulam Farid to the mix and we’ve got one messed up situation. This tops all the problems this entire family has ever faced. No blow is more sever than the one that damages the name. And who will clear that name if Salar does get shot and killed? I can’t even. This is so depressing. And I did not like the countdown thing at all! Those who’ve read Amarbail would know nothing good ever came out of that. I’m hoping against hope that none of them gets hurt. I would not accept anything but a happy ending to this story.
Tell me your thoughts on this episode. Are you as depressed as I am, or do you see any ray of hope in there somewhere? And what are your expectations from the last episode?
Thank you for reading. Allah hafiz.
